Before and Beyond

Memories Are Forever

Can you believe that we are halfway through the year 2023 already? Seems like only a few days ago when we welcomed the new year; and now we are already halfway through it.⏳📆

Looking back I am thankful for so much, not least of which is my marriage and family.

I have discovered that in the journey of life, nothing trumps the deliberate effort at growth and personal development.🤔

For me, the last six months have been a season of growth. Learning. Unlearning. Relearning.

I have done quite a lot of reflection in recent times, particularly in the wake of the recent bereavement of a dearly beloved one.

Hearing his spouse say to my husband and me “He loved me. He spoiled me. He was truly the husband of my life. I can’t forget his life of sacrifice for me and our children. He was our pillar and support….” touched me most deeply.

Having known him for over three decades, I have cherished memories of a fine gentleman, a brilliant professional, godly, humble, loving, and void of frivolities.

Memories…😴

That’s all that’s left of such a great soul.

And that’s all that will be left of every one of us when our time on earth is over.‼️

Now, this is what I’m driving at:

  • Whether we realize it or not, we are building memories every day. Without even trying much, we are making indelible impressions on our loved ones, especially our spouses.
  • With every word we speak, every step we take, every action we take, every reaction, every engagement or refusal to engage we are constructing an invisible but tangible memorial that will outlive us and serve as an inspiration when we are gone.
  • The times when we choose love over indifference when we choose forgiveness over punishment, reconciliation over justification, the high road of patience over hastiness of spirit; they all count for something. A monument of grace is being erected in our favour in the hearts of our loved ones.
  • At the risk of sounding simplistic, I dare say that the whole point of being in a loving relationship with another human being made by God is to love them on God’s behalf and show them what it means to be cherished and valued.
  • I couldn’t agree more with the wise man who said “The true worth and value of a life is its impact on other lives.”

While we are meant to live life to the fullest, enjoying all the blessings bestowed on us by God’s grace and benevolence, let us be mindful of what kind of legacy we are building.

True greatness is in what you leave behind. Your legacy will be determined by the choices you make today.

If you are in a dire situation and do not know how to navigate your way through it, reach out for help.

This is your life; your legacy is at stake!

Hot Tip:

Always bear in mind the reverberating effect of your actions and choices today. The impact thereof will ring through the ages…

Parting Shot:

The opportunity to leave a legacy behind is shorter by one day today!!!
